AWOL

Synopsis

In military terms, AWOL stands for “Absent WithOut Leave”, Absent Without Official Permission. In this track, AURUS and Mathéo Técher refer to this American expression to illustrate the desertion of our being, barricaded behind the shells that we strive to build to camouflage our wounds, our cracks, our scars. AWOL is an Ode to fragility, to the beauty of our imperfections, a fight against the military discipline that we inflict on ourselves to smooth the roughness of our contours but also a call to courage. AWOL is a utopia, an atmospheric and liberating track, in which AURUS and Mathéo Técher have imagined a world in which we could interact and be ourselves, without artifice and with no fear to dare and reveal all our complexities.

Lyrics

AWOL

(AURUS & Mathéo Técher)

In his armour

He is tightly fighting for

A utopia, like a shell-less space

In her shelter

She is holed up by the doors

Do you see her? Coz behind this fence,

There’s a woman with scars of gold !

In the nudity, the waves are freely floating…

Why do we try so hard

To build a wall of acts for us to hide?

When the shell is a limit, the self needs to go AWOL

I’m not this savourless fake !

I’m not this vapid inmate !

I’m not this savourless fake, I’m better off with my scars !

We are menders,

When cracks in the mask appear,

We restore it quickly, not to face ourselves…

This daily makeover

Is a tedious useless chore

What matters the most is inside this cell:

You’re a man with scars of gold

In this nudity, the words give their true meaning…

When the shell is a limit, the self needs to go AWOL

I’m not this savourless fake !

I’m not a vapid inmate !

I’m not this savourless fake, I’m better off with my scars !
